On the last day of September, Epic Games announced the release and immediate availability for download of the second hotfix build for its more recent Unreal Engine software, version 4.9, announced exactly one month ago.

According to the attached changelog, Unreal Engine 4.9.2 is a hotfix release that fixes no less than 21 issues that have been reported by users since the previous maintenance release of the software, version 4.9.1. Unreal Engine 4.9.2 is now available as a free update for all supported platforms.

Among the most important changes included in Unreal Engine 4.9's new point release, we can mention support for rendering translucent material to HUB in the DrawMaterial() function, the ability to open assets that have been created with Unreal Engine 4.9.0 and 4.9.1's editor, as well as support for the new iOS 9 mobile OS from Apple.

"The 4.9.2 Hotfix is now live! Feel free to continue the discussion about this release on the 4.9 announcement thread. If you experience a bug with the 4.9.2 Hotfix, please remember to log a bug report for the issue on the UE4 AnswerHub to the Bug Reports section," reads the announcement.

Multiple crashes have been plugged

Furthermore, Unreal Engine 4.9.2 plugs multiple crashes in its core components and functions, in particular for things like UE4Editor_CoreUObject!UStruct::IsChildOf(), Blueprints - FObjectRecord::FReader::operator, UE4Editor_Engine!FKShapeElem::GetShapeCheck(), AIPerception Senses Config, BP editor, FSlateImageRun destructor, Effects.umap, and the Windows Chinese version of the software.

Last but not least, there are improvements for the iOS 8 mobile operating system, for the Parallax Occlusion Mapping feature on Mac OS X, the PowerVR GPU of the Galaxy S4 (GT-I9500) smartphone, and Xbox One gaming consoles. Movies can now be skipped if the "Wait for Movies to Complete" function is set to false, and check boxes and sliders now work on touchscreen devices.

Download Unreal Engine 4.9.2 for GNU/Linux, Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X operating systems. As mentioned, we've attached the official changelog of Unreal Engine 4.9.2 below for those of you who are curious to known what exactly has been changed in this maintenance release.
