Gamers will be brought online in small groups

Video game developer Evolution Studios and publisher Sony are announcing that, after a very long wait, the PlayStation Plus version of DriveClub will be launched via the PlayStation Network on Thursday, June 25.

It seems that the two companies are only offering the offline mode of the racing experience to all players starting on that day, and those who want to play online will be able to gain access gradually.

During the period, Evolution Studios will monitor the situation in order to make sure that the game runs smoothly, and no problems affect the community.

It seems that the aim is to keep the servers from becoming overwhelmed, and it's unclear when the process will be completed.

Shuhei Yoshida, the leader of the Sony studios, is saying in the official announcement that "We’ve spent a long time preparing for this launch after some difficult and unexpected set-backs. To make certain that all players have the smoothest and most stable experience possible we are going to be duly cautious about how we release the game this time around."

Gamers who get the PS Plus version of the racing experience can play all through the Indian tracks and are able to use 15 of the cars included in the experience.

They can also complete all the challenges and can share content they create with the rest of the community.

DriveClub will also get a companion app in the future

The progress that gamers make in the PS Plus version of the game can be transferred to the full one for those who want more vehicles and more tracks.

Evolution Studios says that it is also continuing to work on a full companion app for DriveClub, which will be launched at a later date.

Interestingly, the studio is not offering any information on whether there are plans to introduce more free downloadable content packs for the racing title or if the company is winding down support once the PS Plus version runs as it should.

DriveClub was first introduced in October of last year only on the PlayStation 4 and was supposed to create another racing franchise that could compete with both Need for Speed and Forza.

The technical problems and the fact that the PS Plus version has been delayed for so long probably mean that a sequel is improbable.
