Blizzard hints that it might bring back the Season mechanic to Diablo 3 on consoles like PS4, Xbox One, PS3, and Xbox 360. However, the system, currently only available on PC and Mac, needs quite a few modifications to work well on the new platforms, according to the studio.

Diablo 3 launched way back in 2012 on PC and Mac, and then surfaced on PS3 and Xbox 360. After launching the Reaper of Souls expansion for the computer platforms, Blizzard bundled that content into the all-new Diablo 3 Ultimate Evil Edition for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360.

While the studio tried to keep the experience seamless on all platforms, modifications had to be made for consoles and some features, like the Seasons, were exclusive to PC and Mac.

Seasons might make their way onto Diablo 3 for consoles

While talking with IGN, Blizzard's Senior Game Producer for Diablo 3, Rob Foote, mentions that the feedback from console users often mentions the desire for Seasons on those versions of the dungeon crawling role-playing game.

Foote admits that such a thing might come true in the future but he also highlights that several big modifications need to be made, so that the "seasonal experience" works as intended on PS4, PS3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360.

"The initial feeling was with consoles, because of the way it’s set up, it can’t support leaderboards and the online community isn’t the same. Sometimes Seasons aren’t really about the leaderboard, but having a fresh start, experiencing the game again and feeling like you’re part of a larger community than yourself where the excitement around Diablo is there. So I think maybe that’s something we need to re-evaluate again," he says.

The next Season for Diablo 3 is set to begin this week and all sorts of new goodies are confirmed, such as the Kanai's Cube as well as a new zone to explore and other such things.
