For the moment, only emotes are being sold

It seems that one of the surprises that Bungie is planning for the future of Destiny is the introduction of microtransactions for the social shooter, with the company announcing that it will add a new Eververse Trading Company to the game on October 13.

Tess Everis is coming back to the Tower next week, and a new announcement explains that she will be initially selling eighteen brand new emotes that gamers will be able to use however they see fit but that will not have any sort of impact on the actual gameplay.

Gamers who are interested in getting access to them will be unable to do so without getting some Silver, which is a new Destiny currency that can only be obtained through a store.

Only on October 13 will gamers be able to get access to a full description and images linked to the new emotes.

Bungie states, "If you’re not interested in what Tess has to offer, you won’t ever be forced to pluck an item off of her shelf. You’ll still receive updates to the game, and you won’t lose a Crucible encounter or fail to clear a Raid because you didn’t have the right Eververse Trading Company emote equipped."

Some free Silver will be offered to all active players so that they can get one or two of the emotes and try them out.

Destiny will also get bigger world events

Bungie is suggesting that the sale of the new emotes and what other content will be linked to microtransactions will allow the studio to continue to create major events that will keep gamers engaged in the long term.

More announcements about future plans for Destiny will be made later in the year, and it seems that, other than the classic updates and fixes, the studio aims to deliver world events and experiences, as well as features that the community is asking for.

The phrases used by Bungie could be interpreted as a sign that the company does not plan to offer any other major expansions for the social shooter and will shift to a more support-focused business model while it works on an entirely new title, which might be a full sequel.
