Video game developer Bungie has not made any big announcement about Destiny during Gamescom 2015, but the team is delivering a new trailer for the social shooter, which is focused on the new features that are being introduced in The Taken King.

The expansion is set to add a major set of changes to the title, and the We Are Guardians footage aims to be both emotional and informative.

The Taken King will be offered on September 15 of this year on both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.

The expansion will center around a new major threat, Oryx, who is coming back to the solar system in order to take out the Guardians who have killed his son Crota and is bringing a massive army with him.

The new boss will be at the center of a big six man raid that's designed to challenge even veteran players, while also offering a variety of impressive rewards.

As the We Are Guardians trailer shows, Destiny will also introduce three new subclasses, capable new enemies, and an arsenal of new weapons that offer more options for gamers.

Destiny is also getting core mechanics tweaks via a major patch

Bungie has also talked about the update 2.0 that will be delivered a few days before The Taken King, filled with both fixes and tweaks to the various core mechanics.

The studio is changing the progression system for characters and the way equipment is used in Destiny, making it easier for gamers to get gear that they can actually use to improve their Guardians.

A major re-balancing process is also happening for the weapons, with Bungie tweaking the base stats for various categories while also trying to make more exotics appealing.

The Taken King is designed to be the biggest content drop for Destiny since it was launched in 2014.

Rumors have been talking about a sequel to the game that is already in development, but the major changes that are being made to the core mechanics might be a sign that the company has long-term plans to support the current incarnation.
