This is just a temporary decision made by Dell

Dell has suspended the sale of the XPS 13 Developer Edition until the company brings some really needed modifications and fixes.

Some very keen eyes from the Linux community noticed that the Dell XPS 13 Developer Edition was no longer available for purchase. Being just a community with no available information, the rumors quickly got out of hand, but it turns out that Dell is just making some changes. Sure, they could have handled this situation a lot better and informed the users about their plans before implementing them, but that didn't happen.

The Dell XPS 13 Developer Edition ships with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, and that alone encouraged people to speculate wildly about why the laptop was no longer available. To make matters worse, the Windows version can be purchased, which is never a good sign. As it turns out, there is a perfectly good explanation for why Dell chose to make it temporarily unavailable.

Dell XPS 13 Developer Edition is returning

Dell is working to correct some problems that were spotted by the users, like wireless drivers bugs, UEFI installation for latest Ubuntu, keyboard repeat, suspend and resume, and a few others.

"Once again we want to thank the entire community for your posts containing feedback and questions to the Dell TechCenter forum and this blog regarding the Ubuntu-based XPS 13 and M3800 developer editions. Last month we posted links to four knowledge base articles addressing: wireless drivers, keyboard repeat, suspend/resume and cursor freezes," wrote Barton George, Director Cloud Developer programs at Dell.

The fact that Dell temporarily pulled the laptop from the store shouldn't worry anyone. Once the fixes are implemented, the users shouldn't have any more problems with Dell XPS 13 Developer Edition. In fact, it shows that Dell is watching over the community and is doing its best to deal with the bugs and comply with the requests.
