In an interview with BuzzFeed News, Apple's CEO Tim Cook made it public that removing pre-installed apps on an iOS device might be possible in the future.

According to the same statement by Tim Cook, even though default iOS app erasing is on the table as a future iOS feature, not all Apple iOS apps will be given this treatment.

This is because, even though you don't really like some of the iOS apps on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, there are a number of them that get used throughout the system to perform tasks that would give an error if the app they're associated with were removed.

Tim Cook did not detail Apple's view on what they consider essential apps for the system, but if we were to guess, there a handful of apps that wouldn't really be missed if removed from an iOS device, such as the Tips app, the News app, Find My Friends, Podcasts and even Health.

Unremovable iOS apps exist because Apple wants its customers to be happy

Hypothetically, if you were allowed to remove any of the apps your iOS device comes with by default, Apple would also allow you to get them back either via the App Store or by restoring a previous backup.

Even though most users would prefer to be able to keep only the apps they need and use on a daily basis, Apple is set on making everyone happy by providing its customers with all the apps one might need throughout the day.

As Tim Cook said during the interview, "It’s not that we want to suck up your real estate; we’re not motivated to do that. We want you to be happy. So I recognize that some people want to do this, and it’s something we’re looking at.”
