Volker Theile, project leader of the Debian-based OpenMediaVault NAS (Network-attached Storage) distribution, has been more than happy to inform us about the immediate availability for download of OpenMediaVault 2.1.

Dubbed Stone burner, OpenMediaVault 2.1 is here with great new features, such as WiFi support with WPA and WPA2 security protocols and security certification programs, Virtual LAN (VLAN) support, new widgets, as well as a brand-new dashboard.

"Today i am happy to announce the release of OpenMediaVault version 2.1 (Stone burner)," says Volker Theile in the release announcement. "A big thank you goes to all translators and forum moderators for their contributions and support."

The operating system is now using the Sencha ExtJS 5.1.1 framework for its web-based interface, introduces various performance improvements to the internal network interface backend, and adds an option that allows users to turn off the collection of system performance statistics.

Moreover, there are some modifications to the network interface configuration page, which now displays only the configuration values and lets users view the current state of all network interfaces by using the dashboard widget.

There are numerous other under-the-hood improvements

In addition to the changes mentioned above, OpenMediaVault 2.1 comes with numerous other under-the-hood improvements and bugfixes, among which we can mention the ability to store the state of the web-based interface, such as column width or displayed grid columns, using the browser local storage instead of cookies.

Last but not least, support for specifying the user's public key in the RFC 4716 SSH public key file format, as well as the ability to add multiple keys have been been added in this major release of the Debian-based NAS Linux distribution. Download OpenMediaVault 2.1 right now from Softpedia, where you will find ISO images for both 32- and 64-bit architectures.
