The development team at From Software and publisher Bandai Namco are ready to show fans of the Dark Souls series the official opening cinematic for the final title in the franchise, even if it's more than two months until it is offered all over the world.

The footage is certainly atmospheric and shows off the world that gamers will be able to explore as well as some of the enemies that they will have to face.

The text accompanying the video adds, "In venturing North, the Pilgrims discover the truth of the Old Words…  Discover in exclusivity the opening cinematic of Dark Souls 3! Yhorm the Giant, Aldrich Saint of the Deep, Farron's Undead Legion and more await you in Lothric. Are you ready to fight them all?"

Dark Souls 3 will be launched on April 12 and can be played on the PC, the Xbox One from Microsoft and the PlayStation 4 from Sony.

Gamers can place a pre-order right now, and a special Apocalypse Edition has been designed to appeal to the most ardent of fans.

Hideo Miyazaki, the leader of the team, working on the experience at From Software, has made it clear that the story will deliver conclusions for all the questions that have remained unanswered after the first two titles in the series, although not all the mysteries of the world will be revealed.

Dark Souls 3 will also distill the unique gameplay of the franchise, offering veterans new difficult fights to solve while also making it easier for newcomers to understand the core mechanics and enjoy their results.

From Software wants to explore new ideas

Bloodborne was not as well received as the company expected and they are seeing Dark Souls 3 as a chance to give the community the kind of experience that they have been asking for since the first title in the franchise arrived.

Combat will be more dynamic, with enemies that behave differently, planned on the way the gamer behaves and with more options for the player, including a new ready stance and more variety in the weapons department.

From Software ran a series of network tests for Dark Souls 3 to make sure that the interactions between players work as planned but has only shown those involved a small slice of gameplay, with more surprises planned for the full launch.

Miyazaki says that his studio is proud of the work it has done on the franchise and wants to go out on a high note while also exploring entirely new ideas, although the project leader has not offered any hints about what those might be.

Neither the development team nor Namco Bandai has said whether there are plans to launch extensive downloadable content for Dark Souls 3 in order to tweak some of the mechanics and expand the world, as it happened with the previous title in the franchise.

The two companies have also promised that the version of the game arriving on the PC will be stable from day one, with none of the issues that affected the two previous ports.
