Microsoft’s continuously looking to improve its digital assistant Cortana and make it even more personal, and starting today, it can even pay your bills if you live in India.

Redmond announced during the launch of Lumia 950 and 950 XL that Cortana arrives on these two devices powered by Windows 10 Mobile with Paytm integration.

Both the Paytm Mobile app and the Paytm Wallet are now built into Cortana, so Indian customers can receive notifications when the due date is approaching while also being provided with features to easily have the personal assistant pay a bill for them.

“We are delighted to partner with Microsoft and together, we will deliver solutions that power our vision of a cash-free India. Starting with the integration of Paytm Wallet in the Microsoft ecosystem, we have an exciting array of initiatives that will change the payment landscape in our country,” Shankar Nath, Sr. Vice President at Paytm, said earlier this month, when the integration was first announced.

Windows 10 Mobile exclusive

For the moment, it looks like Paytm integration will only be available on Windows 10 Mobile devices, such as the Lumia 950 and 950 XL, so it can’t be used on older handsets running Windows Phone.

Microsoft is expected to provide more details about its Paytm support in early December, when the first Lumia units arrive at customers. The two devices are up for pre-order right now and scheduled to be received by the very first customers on December 11.

Microsoft is seeking similar partnerships in other markets across the globe, as Cortana has become a key focus for the company for all Windows 10 devices. Improving Cortana can help replace a number of traditional technologies, and Redmond says that, at some point in the future, it can even take the place of the classic web searching way in the browser thanks to its expanding voice support.
