14 DAY TRIAL // Clement Lefebvre, the leader of the Linux Mint project, sent in his monthly report for September 2015 to inform all Linux Mint users about the most important milestone of the project.
Mr. Lefebvre starts by thanking those who donated money for the project, and continues with some news from the Linux Mint partners, CompuLab and HELLOTUX, which managed to upgrade the Mintbox 2 and Mintbox Mini computers to the Linux Mint 17.2 Cinnamon Edition operating system and ship Linux Mint sweaters respectively.
Then, the developer continues with news about the new features implemented in the upcoming Cinnamon 2.8 desktop environment, such as the new visual workspace switcher applet and the revamped sound applet about which we've already reported news last month, and the features coming to the MATE 1.12 desktop environment.
"Before getting started and talking about what we’ve been working on, I’d like to thank all the people who helped us," says Clement Lefebvre. "In August, CompuLab completed the transition to Mint 17.2. New Mintbox 2 and Mintbox Mini units now ship with Linux Mint 17.2 Cinnamon edition."
Linux Mint Mate and Xfce users to get new features too
After delighting us with the awesome new features that will land in the upcoming MATE 1.12 and Cinnamon 2.8 desktop environments, Clement Lefebvre talks about the great window management improvements that will land for both Linux Mint MATE and Xfce users, which adds better Compiz support, the ability to switch between multiple window managers, and support for Openbox and Compton.
These and many other cool features will be implemented for the forthcoming Linux Mint 17.3 operating system, dubbed Sarah. Also noteworthy is that the Xfce edition of Linux Mint 17.3 will ship with the Compton compositing manager to reduce screen tearing. In the end of the report, Mr. Lefebvre invites users to vote if they play most of their games on Linux Mint or not.
