Neofytos Kolokotronis from the Chakra GNU/Linux project has had the pleasure of announcing the general availability of new updates for the latest stable release of the Chakra GNU/Linux computer operating system.

The stable Chakra GNU/Linux software repositories have been filled today with updates for numerous important package and core components of the distribution, including but not limited to graphics stack, Linux kernel, office suite, and web browser.

"These and many other updates land into Chakra's stable repositories, more than 25 reports relating to bugs, package updates and feature requests on our bug tracker will close since they have been implemented," said Neofytos Kolokotronis.

Therefore, Chakra GNU/Linux is now powered by Linux kernel 4.2.6, which is installed by default in the distribution, adds the long-term supported Linux 3.14.57 LTS kernel, as well as the X.Org Server 1.17.4 display server, Mesa 11.0.6 3D Graphics Library, the AMD Catalyst 15.9 graphics drivers, and the open source Intel 2.99.917 video driver.

Moreover, the latest Nvidia 358.16, Nvidia Legacy 340.93 and 304.128 video drivers have been added. Among other interesting updates, we can mention the addition of the latest xf86-video-libinput package, which provides a generic input driver for the X.Org Server, based on the libinput library.

Firefox 42.0, Wireshark 2.0, LibreOffice 5.0.3, and many more

In addition to all the updated core components mentioned above, Chakra GNU/Linux's software repositories have also received updates for many important applications. Among these, we can mention the Mozilla Firefox 42.0 web browser, LibreOffice 5.0.3 office suite, NetworkManager 1.0.8 network connection manager, and Wireshark 2.0 network scanner.

The CUPS (Common UNIX Printing System) 2.1.2 printing server, OpenJDK 8.0 Update 64 Java Runtime Environment, MariaDB 10.1.8 database server, Samba 4.3.0 file sharing infrastructure, and 0 A.D. 0.0.19 Alpha historical Real Time Strategy (RTS) game has also landed in the core repos of the Chakra GNU/Linux distribution. All users are urged to update their Chakra installations as soon as possible.
