All users must update as soon as possible

Once again, Neofytos Kolokotronis of the Chakra Project kindly informs all users of the Chakra GNU/Linux operating system about the latest KDE technologies added in the OS' official software repositories.

Therefore, Chakra GNU/Linux received this past weekend the KDE Plasma 5.5.3 desktop environment, KDE Applications 15.12.1 software suite, and KDE Frameworks 5.18.0 collection of add-ons for the Qt 5 GUI toolkit. Click the links above to see what's new in each of these KDE technologies.

As the KDE changed the release schedule for all of its products, providing a faster development cycle, Chakra GNU/Linux users should see more frequent KDE updates in the repositories. In other words, you will always get these maintenance releases quite fast in the distribution.

Plasma releases now follow a new schedule, with fast early bugfix releases that gradually become less frequent. Plasma 5.5.3 includes bugfixes and new translations with the changes being "typically small but important."

"The latest updates for KDE's Plasma, Applications and Frameworks series are now available to all Chakra users," said Neofytos Kolokotronis in the announcement. "Most of our mirrors take 12-24h to synchronize, after which it should be safe to upgrade."

Chakra users need to update now

As expected, it takes up to 24 hours for all mirrors to fully synchronize with the latest changes added on January 16, 2016, by the Chakra GNU/Linux developers, so right now it is safe to say that all Chakra users need to update their systems using the built-in package management tools.

We'll take this opportunity to inform those of you who want to switch to the Chakra GNU/Linux operating system that they can download the latest Live ISO image right now from our website, where they'll also find an in-depth review of the distribution. Chakra GNU/Linux is a rolling-release OS inspired by Arch Linux.
