Earlier today, December 14, the CentOS developers, through Karanbir Singh, had the great pleasure of announcing the release and immediate availability for download of November's update for the rolling CentOS Linux 7 operating system.

Today's update represents the third major release of the CentOS Linux 7 series of GNU/Linux distributions, which renews the base system on the recently released Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.2 operating system. Additionally, today's release of CentOS Linux 7, build 1511, includes all the security patches and software updates that have been pushed to the official repositories of the distribution during the month of November and December 2015.

"We would like to announce the general availability of CentOS Linux 7 (1511) for 64 bit x86 compatible machines. This is the third major release for CentOS Linux 7 and is tagged as 1511, derived from Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.2," said Karanbir Singh. "I would also like to thank our donors and sponsors for their continued support for the project. And to everyone who contributed with ideas, code, test feedback, and promoting CentOS Linux into the ecosystem."

What's new in CentOS Linux 7 Build 1511

Prominent features of CentOS Linux 7 Build 1511 include the addition of a Kerberos HTTP proxy for identity management, support for TLS 1.1, TLS 1.2 and EC ciphers in various packages, ECC support for TLS connections in OpenJDK 7, TPM 2.0 driver, nanosecond timestamps support in tcpdump, networking stack improvements, full support for the virt-v2v command line tool, Atomic packages updates, as well as GNOME 3.14, KDE 4.14, X.Org Server 1.17, LibreOffice 4.3.7, and OpenLDAP 2.4.40.

Therefore, all users of the CentOS Linux 7 operating system are urged to update their installations today, as the new release supersedes all previous versions and it is now the most advanced stable build of the GNU/Linux distribution. To update, simply run the "yum update" command in a terminal emulator. New users can download the CentOS Linux 7-1511 ISO images for 64-bit computers right now from Softpedia. The OS is distributed as Live GNOME, Live KDE, Net Install, and Minimal ISOs.
