14 DAY TRIAL // A new OTA update for Ubuntu Touch is set to release in just a couple of days, but developers have unveiled it by mistake only for a short while. A few users got the notification and even managed to install it before it was pulled, but it shouldn't be a problem.
Some Ubuntu users have reported that they've received a notification to upgrade their operating systems today with the new OTA, and they did so. Others have remembered that it wasn't supposed to launch yet and notified the development team, which quickly pulled it from download. Technically, the update should launch on Monday, but a simple mistake changed that.
The team explained that it wasn't really an issue since they've done all the testing required and the update that some users installed today is the proper version, but it's usually common practice not to launch stuff at the end of the week. If something does go wrong, you're going to spend the entire weekend trying to fix it, and that's not really a good choice.
OTA 7 is coming on Monday
Nothing has changed, as far as the Ubuntu developers are concerned. For what it's worth, a select number of people just got the update ahead of everyone else and will be able to enjoy this preview for the next couple of days.
"As some of you already know during the night (UTC time) our OTA-7 image has popped up as an update for a short period of time for stable phone users. This was caused by an accidental copy of the release candidate image to the wrong channel, so we removed it after a few minutes. That being said, certain users were still able to update already, with others getting a no-op update notification when looking at their phones," wrote today Łukasz 'sil2100' Zemczak.
