The development team at Treyarch and publisher Activision are announcing that a new major patch is live for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 labeled 1.06, designed to eliminate some of the problems that the fan community has been flagging since the launch of the previous 1.05.

Gamers will be prompted to download the new patch on both the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, and the two companies are introducing a range of major tweaks linked to maps like Splash, Gauntlet, Stronghold, Redwood, Infection, Havoc, Combine and Breach.

There are also changes made to the Scorestreaks, the Specialists and the weapons that power the multiplayer side of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, and gamers can see a full list by clicking on the button at the end of this article.

The game also has tweaks for the zombie cooperative mode, and the friend filter has been temporarily disabled for those who have more than 100 friends on a leaderboard, while Treyarch is investigating an issue associated with it.

The previous major update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 went live when the company launched the Awakening downloadable content on the PlayStation 4 on February 2.

Gamers who play the first-person shooter on the PC or the Xbox One will have to wait until early March to get access to the same four new competitive maps as well as to the Der Eisendrache episode for the undead-powered cooperative campaign.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will get three other major DLC drops

Awakening has been relatively well received by the player base who has access to it, and Treyarch and Activision should strive to introduce a little more originality into the next three content deliveries for the shooter.

The companies working on Call of Duty have traditionally stuck to the four multiplayer maps and a new undead chapter formula, but players need a little more variety to stay engaged with the core mechanics of the game.

Gamers who do not have Awakening can currently enjoy multiplayer matches featuring Black Ops 3 in its eSports incarnation, all played on the PS4 home console from Sony.

Infinity Ward is at the moment working on the next installment in the franchise, which is expected to arrive during the fall on the PC, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.

No hints have been offered about the story that the studio is planning to explore or the main new original features of the experience in either single player or multiplayer.

Ads for positions inside the team have mentioned that a new engine is being created for the title and that the studio is planning to deliver new game modes for the multiplayer, which might include a bigger focus on cooperative mechanics.

Call of Duty has been the biggest franchise for Activision for years now, and Black Ops 3 has managed to generate more than 500 million dollars (470 million Euro) in revenue during its first three days in stores, a record for the video game industry in 2015.
