14 DAY TRIAL // Activision confirms that the upcoming PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will not feature the main story campaign. Instead, those on last-gen consoles will only get to enjoy the Zombies and Multiplayer campaigns. In order to make it up, all versions come with a voucher for Black Ops 1 on the respective platforms.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 was revealed to the world earlier this year by publisher Activision and developer Treyarch for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. After that initial announcement, the companies revealed that they're working with Beenox and Mercenary Technology to port Black Ops 3 onto the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Last-gen Black Ops 3 doesn't have the story campaign
While the companies involved mentioned that platform limitations would take a toll on what is possible with Black Ops 3 on the PS3 and Xbox 360, fresh and relatively worrying information is now confirmed.
Activision mentions on the official website that Black Ops 3 on last-gen consoles doesn't come with the story campaign. Instead, only the Zombies and the Multiplayer modes will be available for players on the old devices.
Apparently, the ambitious scope of the campaign, which supports up to four players via co-op mode on PC, PS4, and Xbox One can't be recreated on the old generation hardware. However, the other experiences can work as intended on the devices.
"Delivering the best possible gameplay experience on all platforms is always our highest priority. With that in mind, Black Ops 3 PS3 and Xbox 360 players can continue to look forward to a new experience of Black Ops 3 multiplayer, including the new momentum-based, chain-movement system, as well as the all-new Specialist class of 9 Black Ops soldiers, which fundamentally change the way players engage in combat."
Free Black Ops 1 copy is coming as a bonus
In order to make things up for the missing campaign, Activision emphasizes that there is a story component for the Zombies mode, and that all copies of Black Ops 3 on PS3 and Xbox 360 come with a free digital copy of Black Ops 1.
Call of Duty: Black ops 3 arrives on PC, PS4, PS3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 on November 3, worldwide.
