Kovid Goyal announced the release of the Calibre 2.36 open-source and cross-platform ebook viewer, converter, and library management software for all supported operating systems, including GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows.

Calibre 2.36 brings several attractive features like the ability to change the app's icons by using icon themes, which are available under the Look & Feel setting of the Preferences dialogue. The new release includes a few icon themes.

It is now possible to create duplicates of the currently selected ebook, which will also include its metadata when adding an empty book to the library. The functionality can be enabled via the "Add Empty Books" entry when right-clicking the Add Books button.

The driver for Kobo e-book readers has been updated to version 3.17.3, drivers for the Adlibris Letto and Unusual Sapiens V2 readers have been added, and a command-line option that lets users open previously read ebooks has been added as well.

Additionally, there's now support for copying CSS rules of an ebook via the Live CSS panel, by right-clicking on it. The Calibre installer for GNU/Linux systems will now install multiple sizes of the mimetype and app icons.

Multiple bugs were plugged

Besides the new features listed above, Calibre 2.36 addresses numerous issues reported by users since the previous version of the software. Among these, we can mention the addition of support for different versions of Amazon's cover image markup and proper rendering of AZW3's large tables that have multiple columns on Kindle e-book readers.

The --open-at argument for the ebook viewer component now gives accurate results, an workaround has been added for a bug in the PocketBook's firmware related to reading of series metadata, a leak of user-defined template functions has been fixed, and incorrect links in the Check Book section of the Edit Book component have been fixed.

Also, the icons of marked books are now correctly rendered. Last but not least, the Forbes, Clarin, .tyzden news sources has been improved.

Download Calibre 2.36 for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows operating systems right now from Softpedia. The software is distributed as 64-bit and 32-bit binaries, as well as a source package.
