Version 2.35 of eBook reader and management software Calibre has been released and is now available for download. It's not a big update, but it does bring important support for Kobo devices.

The Calibre developer seems to be back to a weekly update cycle, and that means changelogs are going to get shorted. This is an already very complex application that has recently got the ability to edit eBooks, so it's difficult to add anything major to it. This means that its maker is now concentrating on fixing problems that are spotted by the community and less on adding new stuff.

Calibre has gone a long way, and it's now the best tool for any job that implies the use or manipulation of eBooks. In fact, the application can also be used as a virtual library, to find the best prices for books by searching in different shops, and even download the latest newspaper editions for all major media outlets in the world.

What's new in Calibre 2.35

The main addition in Calibre 2.35 is the support for the new firmware version 3.17, for Kobo devices. This is very important as Kobo eBook readers are quite common, and a lot of people use them. Also, setting the number of pages per screen separately for portrait and landscape modes is now permitted.

According to the changelog, a regression that was introduced in the previous release that broke conversion of some documents that specify vertical alignment in absolute units (DOCX) has been corrected, the "stopping content server" message no longer appears repeatedly even when it is closed while the content server has not fully stopped, an error that occurred when converting a file that uses media queries with comments in the media selector has been fixed, and a couple of news sources have been updated.

You can download Calibre 2.35 from Softpedia, and you can also check a review of the application.
