A few minutes ago, January 15, 2016, Kovid Goyal announced the release and immediate availability for download of the Calibre 2.49 ebook library management software for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows operating systems.

Among the new features implemented in Calibre 2.49, we can notice support for Qt 5.5.1 GUI toolkit for the Linux build for the software, support for the new Kobo driver firmware 3.19.5761, as well as a new option in the E-book Viewer component that lets users view only a single book at a time.

Calibre 2.49 also ships with many bugfixes. For example, the developer managed to fix an issue with the splash screen on Mac OS X, which occurred when attempting to restart the software in debug mode. Moreover, they updated the plugins used for downloading Polish books and added support for downloading review metadata from the Amazon website.

Among other improvements, we can notice a patch for corrupted PNG images in MOBI Output's input document, the ability to send books to the NOOK/My Files folder for the Nook Glowlight Plus reader, better support for detecting external network interfaces, and support for comic books with non-ASCII characters in their filenames.

More bugfixes, new and updated news sources

In addition to the changes listed above, Calibre 2.49 addresses various issues that users reported with non-ASCII characters, as they were not displayed properly in embedded MathML for the E-book Viewer, and implements support for downloading Calibre plugins over a secure HTTPS connection.

Last but not least, several news sources have been updated in Calibre 2.49, among which we can mention Echo Online, Tagesanzeiger, Economic and Political Weekly, as well as several Uruguayan news sources. The LaRed21 news source has been added in this Calibre release by Carlos Alves.

Download Calibre 2.49 right now from Softpedia for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows operating systems. More details about this release can be found in the changelog attached at the end of the article for reference or on the project's website.
