14 DAY TRIAL // A few minutes ago, Calibre developer Kovid Goyal announced the release of the Calibre 2.45.0 open-source ebook library management software for all supported operating systems, including GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows.
According to the release notes (attached at the end of the article), Calibre 2.45.0 introduces three new features. The first one is support for customizing the text displayed under covers, which has been implemented under Preferences -> Look & Feel -> Cover browser.
While the second feature lets users add their own columns or view detailed information about existing ones in Preferences, the third one allows you to generate covers with book metadata when sending books without covers to a device.
But Calibre 2.45.0 is more like a bugfix release than a feature one, as it looks like it fixes ten issues reported by users since the previous release of the software, Calibre 2.44.1, in various areas, including PDF and DOCX support.
Bugfixes, lots of bugfixes
Among the most important issues fixed in Calibre 2.45.0, we can mention support for handling PDF documents that contain fonts and don't have a full name or PostScript information, and support for handling non-decimal numbering styles in DOCX docs.
Moreover, the software addresses two nasty issues in the Bulk metadata dialog, one related to the renaming of custom series via the search function, and the other one linked to the search and replace functionality.
The Amazon metadata download plugin has been updated to support the latest changes on the amazon.com website, which prevented users from downloading book metadata, and the Edit Book and Tag browser components have received improvements.
