The Borderlands franchise owned by Gearbox Software and 2K Games is expanding into new territories, as a movie deal has just been struck with Lionsgate. As of yet, very little details are nailed down but the film is expect to appear in the future.

The Borderlands series has been around for quite a few years now, reaching the hands of gamers way back in 200. Since then, Gearbox Software has released a major sequel, in the form of Borderlands 2, and helped 2K Australia debut the Pre-Sequel title last year.

Plenty of things have emerged since then, including a somewhat confirmation for a Borderlands 3 project that's in early development, as well as a Borderlands Online free-to-play experience that will be released in China soon enough.

A Borderlands movie is now scheduled to appear

Now, Variety confirms that Gearbox Software, 2K Games, and Lionsgate have struck a deal to create a Borderlands live-action movie.

The new film is going to masterminded by famous Producers Avi and Ari Arad, who previously worked on an array of movies like Iron Man, Spider-Man, X-Men, and many others.

According to statements from the companies, including Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of 2K parent company Take-Two, the Borderlands movie will retain the "in-your-face" attitude that's made the video games so popular all around the world.

"Lionsgate has emerged as a major creative force in the global marketplace with an incredible portfolio of brands; our partners at Gearbox have pioneered and cultivated an iconic property; and Avi and Ari Arad are two of the most successful producers of action franchises," Zelnick says. "This alliance is ideally positioned to create a bold, provocative, no-holds-barred motion picture phenomenon that will delight Borderlands' current legions of fans and captivate moviegoers around the world."

As of yet, the deal has just been finalized so there's no release date, director, actors, or even plot details. You can expect things to start getting nailed down in the following months.
