Video game developer From Software and publisher Sony are announcing that their very popular Bloodborne will be down for maintenance for a few days as they work to eliminate an exploit that has recently been identified, although the two companies have not offered any official information about its exact nature.

The official announcement simply states that "We are currently conducting emergency maintenance on the game servers. The maintenance should be complete within a few days. We will update you again once the maintenance ends. We apologize for the inconvenience, and thank you for playing Bloodborne."

The player community was not notified in advance, and some are saying that the development team should be offering more information to make sure that the fan base knows what is affecting their favorite title.

From Software and Sony have recently launched The Old Hunters, a major piece of downloadable content for Bloodborne, and it seems to be connected to the major exploit that is being dealt with at the moment.

Most gamers believe that the problem is linked to the Player versus Player mechanics and might give some an unfair advantage, which is a big issue for a game where combat is one of the main selling points.

Others are talking about an exploit that allows those willing to follow some simple steps to get access to the Old Hunters for free, which clearly both From Software and Sony want to make sure does not happen.

They base their guess on the fact that Tim Wernicke, the lead hosting engineer working on Bloodborne, is not ready to offer any more information, despite his tendency to communicate with the community when a problem appears.

Offline mode is available for gamers at the moment

The Old Hunters adds a range of new content to the title, allowing gamers to use new weapons, armor, and other items while dealing with powerful bosses that require new tactics and thinking.

From Software has not said whether it has plans to deliver another major downloadable content pack for Bloodborne or it will limit itself to updates for the experience for the coming months.

Bloodborne was initially introduced in March of this year and can only be played on the PlayStation 4.

The studio is busy working on Dark Souls 3, which is set to arrive on the PP, the Xbox One, and the modern Sony platform in late March in Japan and during April of next year in the rest of the world.

Hidetaka Miyazaki, the leader of From Software, has said that he believes the next installment will be the final one in the series, designed to deliver a final set of improvements and tweaks to its core systems of combat and exploration.

He says that gamers will be able to discover more details about the world in which the Dark Souls titles take place, although he does not plan to reveal all the details that some have been asking for.

The development team has other ideas that it plans to explore, although the studio is not yet ready to offer any kind of details.

UPDATE: From Software has managed to solve the issue relatively fast and the servers are back online.
