Rumors that Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, one of the most solid couples in Hollywood, were going through serious marital drama and would be announcing their divorce any day now, have been making the rounds for months. Speculation picked up considerably the other week, when a moving van was spotted outside their home.

Sources from their camp dismissed talk of a divorce by saying they were just redecorating - while preparing for their 10th wedding anniversary. As it turns out, they were splitting up: one day after said anniversary, the two have released a joint statement to announce their separation.

Ben and Jen are done, for good

Ben met Jennifer in 2001, while working together on “Pearl Harbor,” but things between them didn’t heat up until they did the critically panned “Daredevil” in 2003. At the time, he was coming off a 2-year, highly mediated romance and engagement with Jennifer Lopez, for which he had taken a severe beating in the press.

He always credited Garner for helping him get back on track by reminding himself that fame was just an unwanted by-product of what he loved doing. During their time together, each praised the other for offering them support and stability in a whirlwind industry that can crush those unprepared for it.

Ben and Jennifer have 3 kids together, 2 girls, Violet and Seraphina, and a boy, Samuel, who is just 3.

The statement released to People Magazine is the only comment they plan on making on “this private, family matter.”

“After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce,” they say. “We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time.”

No prenup, no drama

TMZ reports that the 2 have no prenup, which is unusual for celebrity couples, especially of their caliber. The fact that they waited for the 10th wedding anniversary to pass was attributed to Jennifer’s plan on getting more spousal support than she would have if they’d announced the divorce before that.

The report claims this isn’t true, for the sole reason that Jennifer doesn’t need Ben’s money. The divorce really is drama-free and both parties are rich enough to walk away with enough for a comfortable life.

In fact, Jennifer has about as much money as Ben. He may be the bigger star, but he’s been doing many indies in recent years: they put him on the map, but they paid very little.

So right now, the only “drama” happening with the Afflecks is that they have to meet with attorneys to discuss the division of property.
