The developers of the Deepin Linux operating system have been happy to announce today, December 24, the immediate availability for download and testing of the RC (Release Candidate) build of Deepin 15.

Deepin 15 RC brings more refinements to the user interface, especially the icons, making them more beautiful, simple and easy to recognized by anyone, anywhere. The development team believes in a design that everyone loves, a design that is distinctive to Deepin.

"deepin is a Linux distribution committed to providing an elegant, user-friendly, safe and stable operating system for users all over the world. With one year’s improvement, deepin 15 RC finally comes to you. At the moment of releasing deepin 15 RC, we want to talk with you that how do we make deepin like this," reads today's announcement.

Better memory usage, boot speed increments

Deepin 15 RC is all about under-the-hood improvements, as the development team has managed to make the operating system more lightweight than ever by dropping the memory usage by up to 60%, as well as to increase the boot speed by up to 50%. The Deepin desktop environment has been refactored in the latest Qt GUI toolkit, replacing the HTML5 and WebKit frameworks, while Go is still used for the backend.

Another interesting feature of the Release Candidate build of Deepin 15 is that the Ubuntu base has been dropped in favor of Debian GNU/Linux Sid. The Compiz window manager has been replaced with Mutter and Metacity, bringing the intelligent switching of window managers functionality introduced in Deepin 15 Beta. Moreover, Deepin 15 RC is powered by Linux kernel 4.2, which includes additional Bluetooth, sound and networking drivers.

Last but not least, the Control Center and Dock components are now fully pluggable, the Upstart init system has been removed and systemd has been added in its place, the GTK+ 3.18.6, Qt 5.5.1 and GCC 5.3.1 packages have been added, and the default shell is now Bash instead of Zsh. Download Deepin 15 RC right now from Softpedia if you want to take the OS for a test drive, just try to keep in mind that this is still a pre-release version, so we don't recommend using it in production environments.
