The KDE Community has revealed that the KDE Plasma desktop has been upgraded to version 5.5.2 , marking the release of another maintenance update.

The Plasma desktop has been getting better and better with each new update, and the KDE developers continue to work on it. The new desktop for the KDE experience is still not welcomed with opened arms by the community, but it's been making good progress in this regard.

A few important distros have already announced that they plan to remove the support for the old KDE SC 4.x, and they are moving on to greener pastures, as the new KDE 5.x, including that latest version of the Plasma desktop.

KDE Plasma 5.5.2 is a maintenance release

The KDE developers don't seem to take any time off, and they have released a new upgrade for the Plasma desktop. It's likely that the end of the year celebrations won't stop them either.

"Today KDE releases a bugfix update to Plasma 5, versioned 5.5.2. Plasma 5.5 was released a couple of weeks ago with many feature refinements and new modules to complete the desktop experience. We are experimenting with a new release schedule with bugfix releases started out frequent and became less frequent. The first two bugfix releases come out in the weeks following the initial release and future ones at larger increments," developers wrote on the official website.

The developers have explained that the task manager is now working fine with popups, the initial default panel thickness now scales with DPI, a multi-row margin tweak fix for vertical orientation has been implemented, spacing between rows has been added, the margin between icon and text has been reduced, and a few other changes have been made.

If you don't want to wait until the new version reaches your repository, you can download the latest KDE Plasma sources from Softpedia, but please keep in mind that you need to know what you're doing.
