ASUS is planning to extend its PadFone line

Last week, we told you that well-known Chinese analyst Pan Jiutang was expecting Qualcomm to start shipping its next-gen Snapdragon 820 this December, and handsets bundling this architecture to make their way into retail starting in March.

According to the same source, the first Snapdragon 820-powered device will be the Xiaomi Mi5 Pro, which is supposed to get unveiled sometime towards the end of this year. Well, this week, another leak surfaces related to another Snapdragon 820 handset which is bound to see the light of day next March.

@Leaksfly claims that ASUS’s upcoming PadFone S2 will take advantage of Qualcomm’s next-gen platform, the one with custom-built Kyro cores, and will make it out into the world in March 2016 (as seen at Mobi Picker). It will probably be announced at the next MWC event in Barcelona.

The source is also providing us with other specifications the PadFone S2 might bundle when it arrives on the market. The phone part features a 5.5-inch display with 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution and is equipped with 4GB of RAM and either 32GB or 64GB of internal storage.

In the photography department, we will find a 20.7MP main camera, while an 8MP shooter will adorn the front. The handset is kept alive by a 3,046 mAh battery.

The tablet into which users will dock the phone features a 10-inch display and a 5,100 mAh battery. The PadFone series is an atypical device family manufactured by ASUS which allows owners to connect the phone part to a tablet dock and become the brains of the slate.

The leakster hasn’t provided any information about pricing, but this info will surely become available later on.

ASUS currently offers a bunch of PadFone models. One of the latest has been launched on AT&T’s red in the US under the name of PadFone X.

The phone/tablet was introduced with a 5-inch touchscreen display with full HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels). It is powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core processor, complemented by 2GB of RAM, which should ensure increased performance levels for all of its users.

At the same time, the handset sports 16GB of internal memory with microSD card slot attached for expansion up to 64GB.

On the back, the phone features a 13MP Pixel Master camera, which is expected to record videos in full HD resolution, plus a 2MP front camera for making video calls.

So, as you can see, next year’s model will benefit from a lot of improvements.
