Today, November 17, Arne Exton has informed Softpedia about the release and immediate availability for download of a new build of his Arch Linux-based ArchEX computer operating system based on the latest GNU/Linux technologies.

According to Mr. Exton, who is known for many GNU/Linux and Android-x86 distributions, most of which are hosted right here on Softpedia, the ArchEX Build 151117 is now based on the latest ISO image of the Arch Linux operating system, featuring its Linux 4.2.5 kernel.

However, the ArchEX GNU/Linux distribution is built around the lightweight LXDE (Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment) open-source desktop environment, which is enabled by default, allowing users to use the operating system on low-end computers, as it requires very little RAM to run.

"Who should run Arch Linux? My answer: The system fits the 'advanced' Linux user/enthusiast, who would be willing to run an occasional command from time to time," writes Arne Exton in an email to Softpedia. "ArchEX 64bit/32bit dual is a new (151117) Linux Live DVD based on Arch Linux."

What's new in ArchEX Build 151117

In addition to the latest features inherited from the upstream Arch Linux operating system, the ArchEX GNU/Linux distribution now features a brand new installer, which is still text-based but designed to give users more control of the entire installation process.

For example, you will be able to choose your favorite language during the installation. Moreover, the Gparted partition editor has also been added to the new ArchEX build, allowing users to easily create disk partitions in advance. The entire list of included packages can be studied on the distro's website.

Among other software included in ArchEX, we can mention the Mozilla Firefox web browser, GIMP image editor, Wicd network manager, and GCC (GNU Compiler Collection). Download ArchEX Build 151117 right now from Softpedia.
