Larger iPhone currently planned, new report claims

Apple is getting ready to launch a new 4-inch iPhone later this month, but it’s the iPhone 7 the one receiving more attention from iFans across the world.

And according to a new report, there’s a good reason for that, as Apple might launch a new 5.8-inch model as part of the upcoming iPhone generation.

What’s more, the new iPhone could not only be larger but also come with an OLED screen, which would be a first for Apple, as all models come with an IPS LCD display.

OLED screen for iPhone 8

This isn’t the first time when we hear about a larger iPhone and OLED displays, but up until now, the information we have has been rather vague and nothing can be taken for granted. What we do know, however, is that the move to OLED will indeed take place sometime in the next few years, but it’s highly unlikely for the iPhone 7/7s to come with such a technology.

Previously, people with knowledge of the matter said that Apple planned a switch to OLED in 2018, which means that iPhone 8 was the first model to come with such a display. But if this new report is true, Apple could do the change a lot sooner and the next-generation iPhone could be the pioneer.

A bigger iPhone could also make sense given some other possibly related rumors that Apple might be working on a Pro version of its device. An iPhone Pro would thus come in line with other “Pro” devices in its lineup, including the MacBook and the iPad and would come with more powerful hardware than the Plus, as well as with exclusive features – possibly even an OLED screen.

The new-generation iPhone is expected to go live in September, so expect to hear many more such rumors by the time this happens, so it’s very important to take everything as a rumor until a confirmation is provided.
