Apple launches its own charging dock for its Watch

The leaked pictures that we told you about yesterday proved to be real, as Apple has just launched its Watch magnetic charging dock that's up for grabs in the US for $79 (€73.9).

Already available in Apple Stores, the new charging dock provides you with a handier way to charge your Watch, as it can be used on your nightstand to hold the device in a more convenient position.

Probably its flagship feature, however, is the built-in support for the so-called nightstand mode, which keeps the time always on for you to check it out at any moment during the night. This was one of the biggest features missing from the Apple Watch, but fortunately, Apple has found a way to make it available before the debut of the second-generation watch.

The standard charging cable still needed

What's very important to note is the fact that the dock uses the inductive charging connector that comes with Apple Watch, so you have to plug in the standard puck in the middle of the dock in order to get it to work.

Apple explains:

“With the Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Dock, you can charge your Apple Watch in a flat position with its band open, or on its side. When docked on its side, your watch automatically goes into Nightstand mode, so you can also use it as your alarm clock. The Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Dock uses the same inductive charging connector that comes with Apple Watch. It charges both the 38mm and 42mm models. And it connects via the Lightning to USB Cable and Apple 5W USB Power Adapter.”

The box only includes the said charging dock and the lightning to USB cable, so make sure you have the standard charging cable around. It works with both 38mm and 42mm Watches and comes only in white, which really gives it a very premium finish, just like any other Apple product.
