You need to enroll into the Apple Developer program to test

Today, January 4, 2016, Apple has started seeding the second Beta release of the upcoming iOS 9.2.1 mobile operating system for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices.

The first iOS 9.2.1 Beta was announced approximately three weeks ago, on December 16, 2015, and it looks like Apple employees waste no time on fixing bugs and implementing new features to the iOS operating system.

Developers enrolled in the Apple Developer program can now grab the second Beta build of iOS 9.2.1, which will be the first maintenance release in the 9.2 series, bringing mostly fixes for bugs and issues reported by users since iOS 9.2.

Tagged as build 13D14, iOS 9.2.1 Beta 2 is now available for supported iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices in your Apple Developer account. There, you can download the IPSW images under the SDKs section for iOS.

iOS 9.2.1 coming early in 2016

Unfortunately, we can't tell what's new in this second Beta build of iOS 9.2.1 because Apple has not yet published any details about the changes implemented, except for a short line of text to inform potential testers that it is a pre-release version.

"This is a pre-release version of iOS 9.2.1 for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Devices updated to iOS 9.2.1 can not be restored to earlier versions of iOS," states Apple on the iOS 9.2.1 Beta 2 page.

If history is any indication, Apple might release a few more Beta builds before iOS 9.2.1 will be available for all users, but don't expect any major changes from a point release. The final version should be available early in 2016 though.

Public Beta testers won't be able to install this version of iOS 9.2.1, unless they've registered their Apple ID with the Apple Developer website, where you can find all the details you need to get started with iOS development and testing.
