Apple believed to develop iOS-to-Android software solution

Reports that came out earlier this week revealed that Apple might be working on a new software solution that could help its users migrate to Android, in an attempt to comply with competition rules in Europe.

But in a recent statement for Buzzfeed, a company spokesperson has clearly stated that Apple has absolutely no plan to do that anytime soon, as it’s a priority for the company to bring people from Android to iOS and not the other way around.

“There is no truth to this rumor,” Apple spokesperson Trudy Muller is quoted as saying. “We are entirely focused on switching users from Android to iPhone, and that is going great.”

Why Apple might be forced to develop such an app

The original report that Apple might be working on an iOS-to-Android migration solution was published by The Telegraph, who wrote that the company could be forced to do that in order to comply with European legislation that regulates competition on the continent.

Most of the apps that are available on Android, and consequently offered by Google, are also available to iPhone users, so when transitioning to iOS, Android users can easily access their previous information.

On the other hand, if you’re currently using an iPhone and want to switch to Android, migrating your data is very difficult, and this is one of the reasons the Cupertino-based firm might be planning to develop a dedicated solution for this purpose.

For the moment, however, Apple seems to be very happy with the transition to iPhone and has no plans to change that.

“For customers who purchased an iPhone last quarter, and replaced a smartphone, that 30 percent of those switched from an Android device. There would have been some switchers on top of that from other operating systems, but obviously Android is the largest one by far,” CEO Tim Cook said in late 2015, emphasizing that he was very pleased with the number of Android users jumping ship for Apple.
