Rumor has it that Apple is getting ready to launch a brand new 4-inch iPhone, and according to information provided by company watcher Ming-Chi Kuo, this new model is very likely to be priced under $500 (€460).

The KGI Securities analyst explains that the new version will enter production on the first months of 2016 and will be launched shortly after that, with Apple expected to introduce the 4-inch device before the upcoming iPhone 7.

At the same time, sources close to the matter have indicated that Apple is considering an early launch of the iPhone 7, and not in the fall, as it did in the past, so the 4-inch handset should be here in just a few months.

But what’s more important is that Apple’s looking to make the 4-inch iPhone more affordable than its bigger brothers, so expect the device to sell between $400 and $500, depending on version, features and storage.

Features and specs

It’s believed Apple will equip the upcoming phone with an 8-megapixel camera that was previously available on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, but also with a 1.2-megapixel unit for selfies and FaceTime. At the same time, the device will probably be made of metal and will be available in a wide selection of colors, just like the iPhone 5c. And yet, it’s not yet known if Apple wants to launch the device as iPhone 6c or not.

Additionally, the analyst says that the phone will come with an Apple A9 chipset, but some other reports have previously indicated that the A8 unit that can be found in older iPhones might also be used in order to reduce the final price of the device. No matter the chip, however, the 4-inch iPhone will integrate NFC in order to support the Apple Pay push that Microsoft’s trying with newer iPhones.

Keep in mind that all of these are still in the rumor stage for now, but given the fact that so many sources are pointing towards a smaller iPhone, a 4-inch version is very likely to be in the works already.
