Just as rumored, Apple has used today’s event to take the wraps off its 4-inch iPhone SE, a new model specifically aimed at users who are looking for a more affordable way to upgrade to the latest software and hardware released by the Cupertino-based company.

iPhone SE looks almost exactly like an iPhone 5s but comes with hardware that’s available on the iPhone 6s, including the 64-bit A9 processor and the M9 motion coprocessor specifically implemented for sensors and other features that do not require full processing power.

Apple says this is as powerful as the iPhone 6s and clearly much faster than the iPhone 5s, featuring major upgrades in almost every single area.

Same hardware as the iPhone 6s

The device boasts a 12-megapixel camera, which is exactly the one available on the iPhone 6s, and features pretty much everything available on the current model, including live photos. The camera sports the new image signal processor and can shoot panoramas up to 63 MP, as well as 4K video and everything you’d expect from a modern smartphone.

Apple hasn’t specifically mentioned it, but the iPhone SE doesn’t arrive with 3D Touch, the feature released on the iPhone 6s last September.

Obviously, the company has praised the device a lot, saying that there are plenty of customers who want a smaller iPhone. “This is the most powerful 4-inch phone ever,” the firm has said.

Th iPhone SE will be available in two storage versions, with 16 GB and 64 GB. The former will be priced at $399 while the latter will sell for $499. The device will be up for pre-order on March 24 and will go on sale on March 31. It’s supposed to land in no less than 100 countries by the end of May, so it’s very clear that Apple wants to bring it in as many markets as possible, especially those where affordable Android devices are selling like hot cakes.
