More information allegedly leaked on the next iPhone

Apple's new-generation iPhone is expected to debut later this year and new information coming from Chinese sources provides us with a closer look at the spec lineup.

According to a report posted by Chinese website MyDrivers (Google Translate version via GadgetzArena), the bigger version of the iPhone 7 lineup, obviously called iPhone 7 Plus, will come with 256 GB of storage space and a 3,100 mAh battery.

Right now, the biggest amount of storage you can get on the iPhone is 128 GB, so if this new report is true, then Apple is doubling the capacity offered to users. That's clearly quite important given the fact that the iPhone comes without microSD card support and chances are that it won't get such a feature for the next generation either.

At the same time, with the company putting so much effort into live photos, which obviously eat up more space on the iPhone, a storage capacity increase is absolutely needed.

Bigger battery, thinner iPhone

As far as the battery is concerned, that's undoubtedly a welcome improvement. The iPhone 7 Plus could thus go from 2750 mAh on the current model to 3100 mAh, and Apple most likely wants to do that because it aims to offer at least the same battery life as on the iPhone 6 Plus. And with so many improvements coming in the next version, a bigger battery is clearly needed.

What's interesting, however, is that people close to the development process said the next iPhone would be thinner, so it'll definitely be a challenge for Apple to fit a bigger battery in a smaller device.

As for the release date, rumor has it that Apple wants to bring the iPhone to the market a little bit sooner than usual, so the typical September launch might take place in the summer. Nothing's confirmed so far, so take everything with a pinch of salt for the time being.
