Apple has released a new update for iOS 9

Apple has just released the public version of iOS 9.2 that includes most of the new features and changes that were previously available in beta builds.

As usual, iOS 9.2 is shipped OTA through the software update screen on iPhones and iPads, but at the same time, owners of Apple phones, tablets, and iPods can update their devices through iTunes. On both Mac and Windows, iTunes should automatically detect the new version and start the download process. Creating a backup is always a good idea, just in case something goes wrong.

Release notes

iOS 9.2, which has been in beta stage since late October, brings plenty of changes, many of them aimed at Apple Music to make playlists, save songs offline, and browse songs.

At the same time, there are many stability improvements to Safari and podcasts, 3D Touch for the iBooks app to peek and pop pages from the table of contents, notes, or bookmarks, as well as a new Top Stories section in News to browse the most important headlines of the day.

Obviously, Apple has also included a plethora of bug fixes, among which a patch to address an issue causing iOS to prevent an alarm from going off, but also to resolve bugs blocking users from logging into Find my iPhone.

Last but not least, iOS 9.2 brings iPhone support for the USB Camera Adapter to import photos and videos, as well as Mail Drop in Mail for sending large attachments.

There is more to discover in this update, but you can check out all the changes in the photo gallery after the jump.

As always, before starting the download and install process, make sure your phone's battery is at least at 50 percent or simply plug in the charger to avoid running out of power before completion.
