Threatening emails lead to the evacuation of several plants

Apple’s plants in Cork, Ireland, are being evacuated as we speak due to what are reportedly threats that the company has received via emails earlier today.

Approximately 4,000 employees have already been evacuated from factories in Lavitts Quay, Hollyhill and Model Farm Road, according to reports, but it’s not yet very clear whether any suspicious packages have been found or not.

And yet, it seems that the Defence Forces have already prepared bomb disposal equipment should any explosive be found, and trained engineers are currently on hold as police search the said plants. It’s believed that the threats have only affected one plant, but the police decided to evacuate all buildings as a precaution.

Posts on Twitter coming from Apple employees who have been asked to leave their jobs and evacuate the buildings confirm that the company has indeed been targeted by threatening emails, but very little is known so far. Workers do not know any details, as police asked them to leave the premises as fast as possible.

The search for explosives or suspicious packages continues at this moment, so we’ll update the article should more information emerge from the site. Up to this point, police forces that responded to the bomb threat haven’t said anything about any potentially dangerous packages they might have found.

Microsoft’s HQ in Munich targeted by bomb threat too

A similar incident happened in November 2015, but this time, it targeted Redmond-based rival Microsoft, whose German headquarters in Munich was also evacuated due to bomb threats.

Approximately 1,800 employees had to leave the buildings after a bomb threat call was received by local police. Eventually, no bomb was found and all officers restarted their operations normally, and hopefully, this will be the case with the Apple headquarters too.
