The antiX development team had the pleasure of announcing the immediate availability for download and testing of the first Beta release of the upcoming antiX 15 Linux kernel-based operating system based on the acclaimed Debian GNU/Linux distribution. This is an important release that brings an updated Debian base, a new kernel, and initial UEFI support.

According to the release notes written by the Greek developers on the operating system’s website, antiX 15 Beta 1 is powered by a custom Linux 3.19.1 kernel, adds UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) support in the Live CD, and it uses packages from the upstream Debian 8.0 (Jessie).

“This is a 32 bit antiX-full using sysvinit (hence the V) and some repackaged debs for nosystemd ie cups, dbus etc. The ISO is 701MB so testers will have to overburn a CD. Please test and post issues, comments at the forums,” was stated in the official release announcement.

UEFI support has not yet been implemented in the installer

Despite the fact that the Live CD now supports UEFI computers, the built-in installer lacks UEFI support in this Beta. Among other changes, we can mention that the boot splash has been enabled by default, localizations have been improved, and various bugs squashed.

Both the boot menu and the menu layout have been reorganized in this first Beta release of antiX 15, which also adds the alsa-sound-card package in order to offer a simplistic way of setting up multiple sound cards in the distribution.

Download antiX 15 Beta 1 right now via Softpedia or directly from the project’s website. However, we would like to inform our users that this is not a stable operating system and we do not recommend installing it on production machines where stability is a must. This version is available only for i386 (32-bit) computers.
