Huawei Ascend P7 has been released on the market exactly one year ago. The smartphone was running Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system at launch, which is the same version that powers the phone momentarily.

However, the Chinese company has already confirmed that some of its mid-range and high-end smartphones will receive Android 5.0 Lollipop updates this year.

The Ascend P7 is among those devices that will certainly be upgraded to Android 5.0 Lollipop. Today, the folks over at GSMArena report Huawei has already kicked off Lollipop beta testing for Ascend P7.

There are many reports coming from users in Italy and Spain that confirm Huawei has started to send invitations for Android 5.1 Lollipop update for Ascend P7.

The beta testing will also cover the company's new EMUI 3.1 user interface. One of the invitations confirms that the beta testing program is limited to 150 Huawei Ascend P7 owners, while the other one does not seem to have any limitations.

The update might arrive as early as next month

Nothing else has been revealed on the Android 5.1 Lollipop for Huawei Ascend P7 beta testing, but we suspect more details on the matter will emerge soon.

If Huawei starts testing the update this week, it will probably take at least another week until the soak test ends. This means that Android 5.1 Lollipop might not arrive on Huawei Ascend P7 until next month.

The Ascend P7 is quite a decent smartphone even one year after release. It packs a 1.8GHz quad-core HiSilicon Kirin 910T processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory.

The handset also sports 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution and features Corning Gorilla Glass 3 coating.

Another strong point of the phone is the 13-megapixel camera on the back, which features autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording. There's also a no-less-impressive 8-megapixel camera in the front that should capture great selfies.
