Fury X has come to town in many shapes but not so many sizes

The AMD Radeon Fury X was launched today, and despite some serious supply-chain issues caused by the card being rapidly sold out, many customized GPU manufacturers joined the custom of announcing their own versions of overclocked, super-cooled Furies.

As such, up until today, major custom video cards manufacturers like MSI, Gigabyte and PowerColor (ASUS is mysteriously still missing from the party) quickly came up with Fury X offers that provide slightly increased base clock and some enhanced cooling solutions.

We'll take them one by one and see what they have to offer.

MSI R9 Fury X 4G

Yes, 4G, probably from 4K and Gaming, or something like this. This model comes equipped with 4GB of HBM memory and is UHD-ready and VR-ready. It has the already popular liquid cooling system sidekick box that keeps the GPU at around 50 degrees Celsius during typical gaming sessions. The radiator can be mounted on the inside of the case to blow the heat directly outwards, and it uses a single high-quality 120mm fan for quiet performance.

Of course, when you're dealing with near prototype tech, all you can really add to the Fury is just some LEDs and bling, with multiple LED lights located on the side of the card. Some just for cool light effects, others to indicate the GPU intensity level.

The specs are: 4096 shaders, 64 ROPs, 4GB HBM memory, 4096 bit memory bus, 1050MHz core clock, 500MHz Memory clock, with the already known triple DisplayPorts and one HDMI, while consuming 350W. MSI Afterburner supports the video capturing function Predator and can even be used on smartphones to monitor and control the graphics card in desktop computers.

The Gigabyte AMD Radeon R9 Fury X

It's fairly simple with Gigabyte - its version of the card is based entirely on AMD's reference design, featuring 1050MHz core and 500 MHz (512 GB/s) HBM clocks. To compensate the lack of DVI connectors, Gigabyte includes a DP-DVI adapter in its package.

Based on the already ominous 28 nm "Fiji" silicon, the R9 Fury X offers 4,096 stream processors, 256 TMUs, 64 ROPs, and a 4096-bit wide HBM interface, holding 4 GB of memory. The card is cooled by a factory-fitted closed-loop liquid cooling solution.

The card is available in the US for $649.

Club 3D Radeon R9 Fury X

Pretty much the same standard as Gigabyte, Club 3D's Radeon Fury X is a stock AMD card with the same specs. However, it comes with an improved Graphics Core Next architecture, more advanced PowerTune management, improved connection flexibility enabling a 6K gaming setup, and a Closed Loop Liquid Cooling Solution.

Just as MSI before it, except for a slight tweak in the cooling solution, it’s quite difficult at the moment to be able to improve on a semi-experimental tech parallel to AMD's own efforts.

PowerColor Radeon R9 Fury X

PowerColor inevitably follows the same line as all other manufacturers, as its solution sports the same stock PCB, same 4GB HBM memory, 4096-bit memory bus, 1050MHz core clock, 500MHz Memory clock, and the same display outputs.

The only changes we could see in PowerColor’s card are some different color hues here and there and different metal choices in non-sensitive areas. This version of the Fury X comes with a maintenance-free closed-loop liquid cooling, premium 120mm fan, GPU Tach activity indicator, and LED illumination, going for an overall "luxurious look."

It also comes with standard features like Virtual Super Resolution, FreeSync, Liquid VR, and 4K resolution.

VisionTek brings R9 Fury X together with R9 300 and R7 300 Series

Probably because VisionTek launched the Fury X in bulk with the latest R9 and R7 graphics cards, it's only logical that its solution is identical to the AMD reference edition.

Being 7.5 inches in length, the VisionTek Radeon R9 Fury X offers black-nickel aluminum exoskeleton, maintenance-free AIO closed-loop liquid cooling, GPU Tach activity indicator, and red LED "RADEON" illumination along the spine of the card.

Nothing special here either, just as we expected, but once the HBM technology hits maturity, we'll see more and more overclocked and energy-efficient graphics cards being produced by manufacturers.

For now, however, we have to deal with what's available on the market, and apparently, not much is available until all major retailers restock their Fury X-es so people can actually start putting this new incredible card through its paces.
