During a promo chat for an Australian TV show, to promote her role in “Magic Mike XXL,” Amber Heard slammed the country’s Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce for the way he handled things in the Johnny Depp DogGate, and said she would never visit the country again.

She has just been charged on 3 counts in the same scandal, so that explains why she was so upset at Joyce. She wasn’t speaking up because she was angry on her husband’s account, she was doing so because she had brought the dogs into the country and failed to declare them to customs.

The Johnny Depp DogGate

The whole thing started in May this year, while Depp was in Australia shooting for “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.” Amber Heard came to visit him on set, via a private jet, on which she had also boarded his 2 Yorkshire Terriers, Pistol and Boo.

Australia has very strict laws for such situations, laws that required Amber to declare the puppies at customs and then have them in quarantine for a minimum of 10 days. She didn’t do that.

Word got out that the puppies were in Australia when Depp left them at a puppy salon for a bath and trim, and staff from the establishment boasted about it on social media.

Joyce reacted immediately: Depp had 72 hours to get the dogs out of the country or they would be put down. He should also expect the matter to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, because, he said, celebrities were still people and they still had to obey the law, as unthinkable as that sounded to them.

Amber Heard takes the fall

As it turns out, it wasn’t Depp who had to prepare to face the consequences of breaking the law, even though the puppies were his.

Us Weekly reports that Heard has been charged with 2 counts of illegally importing dogs into Australia and 1 count of “producing an unspecified false document.”

“The charges can lead to a maximum of 10 years behind bars, and a fine of $75,000 [€68,914],” the report adds.

This explains why Amber was so furious in the aforementioned interview, as she’d probably been briefed that she would be held accountable for what had happened.

You can see the video of the interview below, with Heard accusing Joyce of being thirsty for attention and using 2 celebrities’ name to get his 15 minutes in the spotlight.
