Need for Speed developer Ghost Games confirms that the new title requires a permanent online connection, but if you just want to play through the story campaign, PS Plus or Xbox Live Gold subscriptions aren't mandatory. What's more, the studio reveals that the title runs at 30fps on both consoles.

Need for Speed is the next iteration in the long-running racing series published by Electronic Arts. The new title goes back to the roots seen in the very popular NFS Underground, by featuring things like nighttime racing, visual and performance tuning, and much more.

After confirming that a beta would take place soon enough on PS4 and Xbox One, and that the PC version would arrive later than intended, in spring of 2016, Ghost Games now shares some more technical details about the title on its website.

There's a permanent online connection but Plus or Gold isn't mandatory

First up, the new Need for Speed requires a permanent online connection as Ghost Games wants to deliver a live service that constantly changes and evolves. However, much like Destiny, for example, the story campaign can be explored without having a PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold membership on the two consoles.

While the virtual world is going to be populated by other human drivers, players can choose to explore it solo with just AI-controlled opponents.

The studio also reveals that, in order to deliver the best visuals and most impressive tuning, Need for Speed's framerate on PS4 and Xbox One is locked at 30fps. It's unclear if the game manages to reach the full HD 1080p resolution on the two platforms, however.

"We always look to maximize the game technology with the platform technology for the experience we’re building, which is why the game will run at 30fps on both Xbox One and PlayStation 4. By doing this we ensure that your gameplay experience remains incredibly smooth and allows you to experience the high speed, adrenaline fueled gameplay that you’ve come to expect from the Need for Speed series," the studio explains.

Need for Speed arrives on November 3, in North America, and November 5, in Europe and the rest of the world.
