14 DAY TRIAL // Lumia 650 is expected to go live sometime this month, most likely on February 15, but it looks like Microsoft has prepared a little bit more than the 5-inch model.
New photos coming from China (via NPU) claim to reveal what could be the Lumia 650 XL, a bigger brother of the standard model that would target buyers opting for a larger screen (which could really come in handy for playing games or watching videos).
A photo comparing it to the 6-inch Lumia 1520 shows that the 650 XL could be quite a massive device, and despite the fact that it has a screen of just 5.4 inches, bezels will bring it close to the 1520.
At the same time, the 650 XL won’t excel in terms of hardware specifications, and the information that has been provided together with the photos points to rather modest performance.
Possible tech specs
Power could come from a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, possibly the 617, paired with 1 GB of RAM, while the 5.4-inch display will offer a 720p resolution of 720x1280 pixels. The screenshots show the device is running Windows 10 Mobile preview, but the version is blurred, so we can’t tell for sure if it’s a newer build or one that’s already available for insiders.
Certainly, a new XL model could help Microsoft go for buyers that are in the market for phablets, but the aforementioned technical specifications are barely decent. Microsoft most likely plans to make the new phone very affordable, so expect it to cost approximately $250 (€230), a little bit more than the standard version.
Keep in mind that these details and photos come from unconfirmed sources, so they could very well be fake, but everything should be disclosed very soon, when Microsoft takes the wraps off the new phone. This should happen on February 15, but a delay is always possible since the company hasn’t yet confirmed the date.
