Latest rumors say the Huawei Mate 8 will launch in 2016

The Huawei Mate 8 recently popped up in the rumor mill and we initially told you that the phone would probably make a debut during the IFA 2015 tradeshow in Berlin.

However, a later report claimed that the phone would not be ready for release in 2015, and Huawei has decided to postpone the launch for 2016.

Well, even with this being the case, the device has showed up in a video bearing model number M200-UL00. The clip is 18 seconds long and the person handling the device (Nowhereelse's editor Steve Hemmerstoffer) specifically states this is the Huawei Mate 8.

The specs of the Mate 8 have already been made available to us via earlier tips, and it appears that the phone is expected to be the first to come out of Huawei with a QHD screen (2560 x 1440 pixels).

Huawei has so far claimed that such displays were unnecessary as they were draining the battery life out of the devices utilizing them. But it seems that the company will soon be complying with the rigors of the market.

The Huawei Mate 8 will probably have two variants

The phone will be offered with 490ppi and will bundle a home-grown Kirin 950 SoC under the hood. Since most Chinese device makers are offering a standard version and a “Plus” model of their devices, Huawei will also follow this pattern by releasing a version of the Mate 8 with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of native storage and another one with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

The back of the device will be home to a 20.7MP rear camera, accompanied by an 8MP frontal shooter capable of snapping quality selfies and handling video chats.

Huawei’s upcoming handset will also bundle a fingerprint scanner, which will be located below the camera. Moreover, the Mate 8 is tipped to bundle a battery with larger capacity than the previous Ascend Mate 7 model, which takes advantage of a 4,100 mAh cell.

So, if Huawei doesn’t release the Mate 8 at IFA 2015, does that mean the company will be silent during the event? Not at all. Rumors online indicate that the device maker is poised to unleash the Mate 7 Plus during the event. The Ascend Mate 7 already has a huge 6-inch display, so we have to wonder whether the Plus model will come with an even larger display. We suspect Huawei has only bumped up the specs on the inside, though.
