It appears we won’t see an iPhone 6c this year after all

Apple is expected to unveil new iPhone models this autumn, which we assume will turn out to be the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. But fleetingly, we have also heard that the Cupertino tech giant might be looking to refresh its 2013 plasticky iPhone 5c model.

This information was later refuted by certain analysts, but this week the rumor makes a comeback. Analyst Ange Wu from Jefferies has revealed that Apple has presumably placed a huger metal casing order to Foxconn, and surprise, surprise, the parts will end up being used in the future iPhone 6c (as seen at Barrons).

While the iPhone 5c of the past used a colorful, plastic case to keep pricing low, the next-gen iPhone 6c will be getting the more premium, metal treatment.

As we’ve told you above, the successor to the iPhone 5c has been in the rumor mill before, with sources claiming that the phone will maintain the same 4-inch display as its predecessor.

The iPhone 6c coming in the first part of 2016?

Still, there’s one detail that doesn’t really fit in the overall image. The Jefferies analyst claims that the affordable iPhone 6c (apparently, Apple will keep the prices “low” even if the phone boasts a metal build) will be released sometime in the first half of the 2016.

This information doesn’t seem to be making much sense, since Apple’s typical iPhone unveiling schedule is set for the fall.

But given the fact that Jefferies has a good reputation for making accurate predictions, we’ll have to consider that Apple might break away from the pattern next year. On top of that, the rumor supports earlier claims that said that we wouldn’t be seeing an iPhone 6c this year.

The Jefferies report also offers a bit of information about the iPhone 6s / iPhone 6 Plus duo, saying that the new devices will make a debut taking advantage of the same chassis the iPhone 6 features.

Not much surprise here, we were actually expecting that. The two new iPhones are also expected to make a debut into the wild with improved resolution (1080p for the iPhone 6s, and 2K for the iPhone 6s Plus), an A9 processor, 2GB of RAM, and Force Touch technology embedded into the display.
