14 DAY TRIAL // Glen McArthur, one of the developers working on the AV Linux project, a GNU/Linux operating system dedicated to audio and video professionals, has recently published a video to show the world what's coming in AV Linux 2016.
It has been a while since we last heard from the AV Linux project. However, it looks like AV Linux 2016 will be the next major release of the Linux kernel-based operating system, which will use Debian Testing as its base, and promises to add a bunch of cool new features, as well as to offer the latest versions of the pre-installed audio and video applications.
"With this release, Glen will be moving away from the 'everything but the kitchen sink' approach and instead will be focusing on providing a very stable base suitable for low latency audio production," reads the announcement. "The upcoming release will be based on a carefully put together version of Debian testing, optimized for use with audio production."
Highlights of AV Linux 2016
If you don't have time to watch the 20-minute video below, we can tell you that among the new features of the AV Linux 2016 operating system you'll find a real-time Linux kernel, JACK (Jack Audio Connection Kit) as the default sound server (PulseAudio won't be included), the Whisker Menu, new action menus for Thunar, and a bunch of new apps (watch the video for full details).
Another interesting fact about AV Linux 2016 is that it will be compatible with the software repositories of the KXStudio Linux operating system, which means that users can install any software they want from that distro in AV Linux.
