14 DAY TRIAL // The developers of the Audacious open-source and cross-platform advanced audio player software for GNU/Linux and Microsoft Windows operating systems have announced the release and immediate availability for download of the first Beta build of the upcoming Audacious 3.7.
According to the comprehensive release notes, prominent features of Audacious 3.7 Beta 1 include support for shuffling playlists by whole albums instead of single tracks, the ability to decode and playback standard input, such as "echo file.mp3 | audacious -," support for disabling guessing of missing tag fields, support for recording Internet streams during playback, and an all-new, unified window for the equalizer presets.
The first Beta build of Audacious 3.7 also introduces support for displaying supported formats on the playlist export window via a new drop-down list, implements a brand-new option called "Edit Lyrics" in the LyricWiki plugin, which has been designed to allow users to open the edit page for the current track, and adds support for high-resolution screens by implementing automatic adjustments to the user interface.
There are many Qt interface improvements
Audacious is currently available for both GTK+ and Qt toolkits, so we must inform you that many of the features mentioned above are available only for the GTK+ interface of the software. However, the new version introduces many improvements to the Qt interface, which can now be customized with multiple new appearance settings. Moreover, a visualizer has been added to the info bar, bringing the Qt interface on par with the GTK+ one.
Also, many plugins have been ported to Qt as well, including the popular Winamp Classic Interface, Search Tool, Playlist Manager, and Status Icon. There are a great number of bugs fixed in the new Beta build of Audacious 3.7 audio player, most of them being reported by users since Audacious 3.6.2.
You can download Audacious 3.7 Beta 1 for GNU/Linux and Microsoft Windows operating systems, but please keep in mind that it's a pre-release version, not suitable for production use.
