Motorola has already kicked off the Android 5.1 Lollipop rollout for the Moto X (2nd Gen) and the unlocked versions of the smartphone have been among the first to get the update.

In the United States, Verizon and US Cellular have already approved the update and while the latter has already commenced the deployment, the Big Red has yet to start pushing the upgrade to Moto X (2nd Gen) devices.

The third carrier in the US to start delivering the highly anticipated Android 5.1 Lollipop update is AT&T. No announcements have been made to highlight the availability of the update, but AT&T published the official changelog on its forums.

However, the carrier confused the target of the update, which is the Moto X (2nd Gen), with the original Moto X. Rest assured though that AT&T will correct this and that the update is indeed meant to arrive on the Moto X (2nd Gen), not on the original model.

If you own the AT&T Moto X (2nd Gen), then you should know that the update is about 507MB in size. It's also worth mentioning that AT&T and Motorola confirmed that Android 5.1 Lollipop is only available via the Motorola over-the-air platform using Wi-Fi.

New security features and many app updates

For the time being, users won't be able to download the update via cellular network, so make sure you are connected to a stable Wi-Fi network before proceeding.

Moving on to the actual changes included in the update, AT&T confirms that Android 5.1 Lollipop for Moto X (2nd Gen) brings Factory Reset Protection security feature, as well as other planned fixes, updates and enhancement.

Android 5.1 Lollipop also updates the following apps and features included in the Moto X (2nd Gen): Ready to Go, NameID, Moto Connect, Moto Migrate, Gestures, Active Display, Voice Defined Triggers and Commands, Highlight Reel, and Authentication.
