Oracle announced just a few moments ago that the second RC (Release Candidate) version of the upcoming VirtualBox 5.0 open-source and cross-platform virtualization software was available for download and testing for all supported operating systems.

According to the attached release notes, Oracle VirtualBox 5.0 Release Candidate 2 fixes an issue in SUPR0QueryVTCaps, addresses a bug in the raw mode, repairs xHCI problems that occurred during resume from a saved state, fixes the Solaris 12 installer, as well as wrong DPI value in X11 Additions.

Moreover, playback has been improved for USB sound devices that have been attached to the virtual machine via the emulated OHCI controller, a different AC97 audio codec type has been provided for Linux guests to patch failures during detection of link speed for the ALSA sound driver, and the drag and drop functionality has been improved.

"Oracle has released VirtualBox 5.0 Release Candidate 2. This release is a major improvement which include a large number of enhancement and bug fixes," reads today's announcement. "See all the details here with a complete list of enhancements, bug fixes and links to download the software."

Drag and drop functionality works much better on OS X systems

The second Release Candidate version of Oracle VirtalBox 5.0 also adds guest to host support for the OS X system, improving the drag and drop functionality, the description of the OS type was improved, OVA files will no longer be stored after they are imported, and virtual machines can no longer be resumed on host-resume with the exception of those that were paused because of a host-suspend.

Last but not least, an API check that prevented the application from changing the promiscuous mode of the network during runtime has been fixed, and it is now possible to upgrade from VirtualBox 4.3.28 on Mac OS X operating systems.
