14 DAY TRIAL // We've already told you a couple of days ago that Raspberry Pi 3 will be released in February with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth LE support, but we never though it would be today, February 29, 2016.
And it appears that most of the developers making software for the Raspberry Pi single-board computer already knew that, as, for example, the guys over at OpenELEC just announced a few minutes ago the release and immediate availability for download of OpenELEC 6.0.2 with support for Raspberry Pi 3.
Of course, Raspberry Pi 3's new Wi-Fi (WLAN) and Bluetooth LE (Low Energy) built-in modules are already supported. Additionally, the firmware and graphics drivers have been updated in this second point release of OpenELEC 6.0 for the Raspberry Pi, Raspberry Pi 2, and the brand-new Raspberry Pi 3 SBCs.
"The OpenELEC 6.0.2 release has been published. Users running OpenELEC 5.95.1 thru 6.0.1 with auto-update enabled will be prompted on-screen to reboot and apply the update once it has been downloaded. Users running older OpenELEC releases or with auto-update disabled will need to manually update," reads the announcement.
More chipsets are now being supported by OpenELEC
In addition to Raspberry Pi 3 support, OpenELEC 6.0.2 now supports the AVerTV Volar HD 2 TV tuner, adds extra USB-WLAN drivers, along with a new Amlogic CEC driver to the WeTek Play and WeTek OpenELEC box builds of the project, updated the built-in Nvidia graphics driver, and adds more WLAN firmware to support extra chipsets.
Last but not least, OpenELEC 6.0.2, which users can download right now via Softpedia or from the project's official website for their favorite devices, patches the infamous Glibc DNS vulnerability, improves the startup times of WLAN drivers by adding the Entropy package, fixes an issue with the settings add-on, and uses Linux kernel 4.1 LTS.
